"I was an absolute beginner with computers a year ago. I wouldn’t have known how to turn one on or even shut one down properly! I really wanted to use computers as I could see my family doing work, having fun and using them for all sorts of things. However I was scared and worried I may do something wrong as I didn’t understand computers and didn’t grow up using them.
The IT lessons have increased my confidence in Excel, Word and PowerPoint. With these skills I am able to create documents and presentations that I have used both personally and professionally. From creating diaries and budgets to emails, letter writing and file management I have gained a great deal of knowledge during the course.
In addition to the IT skills directly learnt, the computing skills have had a great effect on my understanding of technology in general. They have given me confidence in other technological areas from being able to do online shopping, managing my finances, using things like social media and digital TV to even controlling my central heating from my phone.
It has taken a lot effort and hard work to gain this confidence but it has been so worthwhile and rewarding. IT is playing more and more of a part in our daily lives. With Glen’s support I have been able to build this confidence and now I am not worried by future challenges but look forward to learning new skills."

I am Sweenie Gunasekera and I am the Secretary for North Herts 50plus group. Mohammed and his hard working and dedicated Team at North Herts Minority Ethnic Forum (NHMEF) provide and deliver an excellent service to the local BAME community and to other groups in North Hertfordshire.
"When I became the Secretary, at NH50plus group, I tried very hard to arrange some IT classes for our members with North Herts College. But when I heard about NHMEF I approached Mohammed in September 2017 and after our first meeting he kindly organised Basic IT Course for beginners and Advanced It Course for improvers. This is the beginning of our successful journey with NHMEF.
Even during lockdown in March 2020, IT classes were continued on zoom. On behalf of NH50plus group I have to offer special thanks to Glen Smith, North Herts Minority Ethnic Forum’s highly skilled IT Tutor, for devoting his time to his IT students.
Our members have enjoyed fascinating cookery workshops, Spanish classes and Talks organised by Forum. The team have helped me to find good speakers for our monthly Forum meetings.
On behalf of NH50plus Forum I wish NHMEF good luck and please do continue with your hard work and excellent service to North Herts community, and thank you very much for supporting our members. Looking forward to get back to the Forum and we will be working together".
